Mark wrote how Jesus, “constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people. And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray. And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land. And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary unto them: and about the fourth watch of the night he came unto them, walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them. But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out. For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and said unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid. And he went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened”, and in chapter six and verse fifty-three of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus and His disciples, “came into the land of Gennesaret” where we read:
And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.
The verse reads, “And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, ...” Mark began with the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “they had passed over” which means “Jesus and His disciples crossed the sea”, “they came into the land” or “Jesus and His disciples entered and came forth into the territory, region and country” “of Gennesaret” which means “belonging to a very lovely and fertile region on the Sea of Galilee which means a harp”. Mark shared how Jesus and His disciples crossed the sea and entered into the “fertile region” “of Gennesaret” which means “a harp”.
The verse goes on to say, “and drew to the shore.” Mark continued with words, “and drew” which means “and brought the ship into mooring or anchor” “to the shores” or “to the shoreline of the sea”. Mark shared how the “boat” in which Jesus and His disciples were sailing came to “mooring” and “anchored” on the shore.
When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how the “ship” made it to it's original destination. Jesus told His disciples to go to the “other side”, and even though there was a storm in the middle of their travels, they made it. Jesus said, “go to the other side”, and He insured they would make it there. Jesus is still giving instructions today, and those who will listen to Him will find Him instructing them to “believe and trust” in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” and they shall receive “everlasting life” when they cross to the other side.
Next time Mark shares how the people in Gennesaret, “straightway … knew him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
