Luke the physician wrote how Peter spoke to the multitude gathered outside the house where the upper room was located concerning Jesus, “Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain. Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it”, and in chapter two and verse twenty-five of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter told the multitude how King David said, “I foresaw the Lord always before my face” where we read:
For David spoke concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face,
for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
The verse begins, “For David spoke concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, ...” Luke began with the words, “For David spoke” which means “because, since and on account that King David of Israel whose name means beloved uttered, declared and proclaimed” “concerning him” or “about him, the Messiah Jesus”, “I foresaw the Lord always” which means “I, David, saw, noticed and observed in advance and at all times the One to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah” “before my face” or “in front of my, David's, countenance and visage”. Luke shared how “Peter” referred to the way “King David” said that he “saw the Lord” at all times in front of his countenance. (See Psalm 16:8-11)
The verse continues, “... for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:” Luke added the words, “for he is on my right hand” or “because, since and on account that he, Jesus, is seated upon my, David's, right hand of authority”, “that I should not be moved” which means “that I, David, will not be agitated, tottered or shaken”. Luke shared how “Peter” referred to the words of King David who knew the Messiah Jesus was at his “right hand” of authority which resulted in not being “shaken or agitated”.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Peter” employed the words of “King David” in the book of Psalms to further demonstrate to the multitude that Jesus is indeed the Messiah and Son of God who came to pay the price for the sins of all mankind. Because Jesus was “foreknown” by many people in the scriptures and God's plan was to send His Son, every person who surrenders their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Let all who consider “Peter and David's” words yield themselves to Jesus who is the “foreknown” “Savior and Lord” of the world.
Next time Luke shares how “Peter” continues King David's words by saying, “therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
