A Place of Judgment - Ecclesiastes 3:16

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “That which has been is now; and that which is to be has already been; And God requires that which is past”, and in chapter three and verse sixteen of his book Solomon said, , “I saw under the sun the place of judgment”, where we read,

And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there;

and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

The verse reads, And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; Solomon began with the words, “and moreover” or “and still, yet again and in continuance” “I saw under the sun” which means “I, Solomon, perceived, considered and had vision beneath the sun in the sky” “the place of judgment” or “the city, land, region and spot pertaining to justice, ordinance, process and procedure”, “that wickedness was there” which means “that wrong, guilt, violence and crime against civil law and iniquity existed in that place”. Solomon continued by sharing how wrong and violence was within the location of process and procedure observed beneath the sun.

The verse goes on to say, “and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.” Daniel continued with the words, “and the place of righteousness” or “and the standing station, post, office, city, region and location pertaining to justice, rightness and equity”, “that iniquity was there” which means “that wrong, guilt, violence and crime against civil law existed in that location”. Solomon also said guilt and violence also existed with the location of justice and equity.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how he observed that evil and wickedness exists even in the courtrooms or locations for justice, and in those locations violence and wrong is there. God knows we all have sinned and come short of His glory, and those sins lead to death. (See Romans 3:23; 6:23) Even in the most “righteous and just” locations of the world sin and unrighteousness exist, and for this reason God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. He raised Him from the dead after three days so when we yield to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and redeem us by His Holy Spirit in a world that knows wickedness and evil even in the most righteous locations.

Next time Solomon says, “God shall judge the righteous and the wicked”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
