In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “there is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God”, and in chapter two and verse twenty-five of his book Solomon asked, “who can eat, or who else can hasten hereunto, more than I?”, where we read,
For who can eat, or who else can hasten hereunto, more than I?
The verse reads, “For who can eat, or who else can hasten hereunto, …” Solomon began with the words, “for who can eat” or “because, since and on account that what person is able to consume and devour”, “or who else” which means “or what other person” “can hasten hereunto” or “is able to make haste and hurry toward something”. Solomon questioned what person was able to consume or hurry toward something compared to the following.
The verse continues, “… more than I?” Daniel added the word, “more” or “to a greater and more abundant degree” “than I” which means “compared to me, Solomon”? Solomon questioned what person is able to devour or hurry toward something to a greater degree than he.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how he understood himself to be greatly advantaged over other people in devouring and making haste toward something. God gave Solomon these abilities, and without God, Solomon would have been and had nothing. (See Psalm 24:1; John 15:1-5) God loves people, and He gives to us according to His desire and will. He desires to have a personal relationship with all of us through His Son Jesus who came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us who shall teach us to use the gifts of God in a manner that is pleasing to him and not just for comparing to others. (See 2 Corinthians 10:12)
Next time Solomon says, “God gives to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
