A Time to Get, Lose, Keep and Cast Away - Ecclesiastes 3:6

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon contrasted different times including, “ A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing”, and in chapter three and verse six of his book Solomon shared about, “a time to get, lose, keep and cast away”, where we read,

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

The verse reads, A time to get, and a time to lose; Solomon began with the words, “a time to get” or “an occurrence and experience to seek, require, desire and request”, “and a time to lose” which means “and an occurrence and experience to perish, vanish, be exterminated and destroyed”. Solomon referred to the occasion when a person seeks and desires versus the occasion when they allow those things to perish and be destroyed.

The verse goes on to say, “a time to keep, and a time to cast away;” Daniel continued with the words, “a time to keep” or “an occurrence and experience to have charge, guard and observe”, “and a time to cast away” which means “and an occurrence and experience to throw, hurl and fling”. Solomon shared about the occasion when a person guards and observes versus an occasion when they throw things away.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon about occasions when people seek and desire versus occasions when they have them destroyed, and he referred to the occasion to guard and observe versus the “time” to throw them away. God knows we shall experience both of these, and because He loves us, He desires a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with His Holy Spirit so regardless of the state we are in, He will guide us into all truth and accompany us in the difficult and prospering times.

Next time Solomon shares about, “a time to rend, sew, keep silence and speak”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
