In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “to every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”, and in chapter three and verse two of his book Solomon shared about, “a time to be born, die, plant and pluck up”, where we read,
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
The verse reads, “A time to be born, and a time to die;” Solomon began with the words, “a time to be born” or “an occurred and experience of bearing, bringing forth, begetting and engendering”, “and a time to die” which means “an occurred and experience of being killed, put to death and perishing”. Solomon referred to the occurrence when something is engendered or birthed and when something perishes or is put to death.
The verse goes on to say, “a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;” Daniel continued with the words, “a time to plant” or “an occurrence and experience of fastening, fixing and establishing”, “and a time to pluck up” which means “an occurred and experience of rooting up, exterminating and hamstringing” “that which is planted” or “the things which are fastened, fixed and established”. Solomon referred to the occurrence when something is set up and established and when something is to be rooted up and exterminated.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon about another contrast between the “time” to do something, and the “time” to remove something that is done. The idea is monotonous and might be best understood by “having this, not having this, having this, not having this, etc.” There is a specific time when people and projects are “birthed”, and there is a specific time when those same people and projects are completed. Just like planting a garden and rooting up the plants afterward, many things in life are the same. God knows these things, and they are never meant to eternally satisfy us. Only a eternal personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days will truly satisfy us. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us so we may discern the value of putting the “time and season” for all things in His hands.
Next time Solomon shares about, “a time to kill, heal, break down and build up”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
