The LORD Dried Up the Waters - Joshua 4:23

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “the people came up out of Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, in the east border of Jericho. And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal. And he spoke unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones? Then you shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land”, and in chapter four and verse twenty-three of the book of Joshua, we learn how Joshua said, “the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you” where we read,

For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until you were passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:

The verse reads, For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until you were passed over, …Joshua or the writer began with the words, “for the LORD your God” which means “because, since and on account that Jehovah who is the existing One and is the proper name for the One True God” “dried up the waters of Jordan” or “withered and made without moisture the flowing waters belonging to Jordan whose name means descender and was the river of Palestine running from the roots of Anti-Lebanon to the Dead Sea a distance of approximately 200 miles (320 km)” “from before you” which means “from the front and presence of you, the people of Israel”, “until you were passed over” or “till you, the people of Israel, traversed through and crossed”. Joshua continued to share how Jehovah God caused the moisture of the flowing waters within the river “Jordan” to “dry up” in front of of the people of Israel till such time that all the people were crossed over the river.

The verse continues, “… as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:Joshua added the words, “as the LORD your God” or “similar and in likeness to the way Jehovah who is the existing One and is the proper name for the One True God and Supreme Deity” “did to the Red sea” which means “performed upon the large body of water known as the Red Sea”, “which he dried up from before us” or “that he, Jehovah God, withdrew the moisture from in front and in the presence of Joshua and the people of Israel”, “until we were gone over” which means “till such time that we, Joshua and the people of Israel, had crossed the Red Sea”. Joshua referred to the way Jehovah God as the Supreme Deity performed the same act of drying the ground upon the “Red Sea” in a similar manner as the “Jordan” so the people of Israel could cross over it.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Joshua continued to share what the people of Israel were to say to their “children” when they asked about the memorial made with the “twelve stones” taken from the middle of the “Jordan” river. God wants people to know how He works on their behalf, and when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone and raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way through faith and belief in Him to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and provided with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and continually remind us of God’s wonderful miracle of salvation that He has performed in the past and currently with us.

Next time we learn how Joshua says, “that all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
