All Things Under Jesus' Feet Hebrews 2:8

Thus far in the book of Hebrews we have seen the preeminence of Jesus, God's Son, over “the prophets”, “the angels” and creation which were shown by the many miracles He did while on the earth. We have seen how God put man in charge of His creation as He made them “a little lower than the angels” and yet “crowned with glory and honor”. In chapter two and verse eight of Hebrews we see how God made “all things in subjection under” man's “feet” where we read:

You have put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him. But now we see not yet all things put under him.

The verse begins, “You have put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him.” The writer began with the word, “You have put all things” which means “arranged under, subordinated and put in subjection each, every, any, the whole and everyone” “in subjection” or “arranged under and subordinated” “under his feet” which refers to “beneath his feet like a footstool”. “For in that he put” or “because, since and on account that he has arranged under, subordinated and put in subjection” “all in subjection” which means “each, every, any, the whole and everyone” “under him” or “beneath Jesus”, “he left nothing” which means “he sent or bid going away and departed, yielded up and expired” “that is not put” or “not made subject, or subjected to control, disobedient, unruly and refractory” “under him” which refers to “beneath man”.

The verse continues, “But now we see not yet all things put under him.” The writer added, “But now” which means “moreover, nevertheless and nonetheless at this time and currently” “we see not yet” or “we do not perceive, take heed or beware of” “all things” which refers to “each, every, any, the whole and everyone” “put under him” which means “made subject or subjected to control beneath man”.

When we consider these words in Hebrews,

Next time we see the writer share how Jesus “tasted death for every man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
