Jesus Captain of Salvation through Sufferings Hebrews 2:10

As we continue to study the book of Hebrews, we have seen how God not only made “man” “a little lower than the angels” and “crowned him with glory and honor”, but He also allowed that Jesus would be made the same so He could “taste death” for us. In chapter two and verse ten of Hebrews, we see how Jesus was “the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings” where we read:

For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

The verse begins, “For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things,...” The writer began with the word “For” which means “as, because, even, indeed, no doubt and seeing then” “it became him” which means “it was to stand out, be conspicuous, eminent, seemly and fit for Jesus”, “for whom” or “through, with, during and by means Jesus ” “are all things” which means “each, every, any, the whole and everyone that exists”, “and by whom” which refers to “on account of, since and because Jesus” “are all things” or “each, every, any, all, the whole and everyone that exists”. Everything that was created was “for” Jesus, and “by” Jesus”.

The verse goes on to say, “...in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.” The writer continued, “in bringing” which means “lead, laying hold of to the point of destination” “many sons” or “much, large and plenteous offsprings, descendants and posterity” “unto glory” which means “to opinion, judgment, view and estimate which results in praise, honor and glory”, “to make” or “complete, perfect, accomplish, finish and bring to an end” “the captain” which means “the chief leader and prince which is Christ” “of their salvation” or “deliverance, preservation and safety” “perfect” which means “completed, accomplished, finished and brought to an end” “through sufferings” which refers to “by way and means of external, misfortune, calamity, evil and affliction”. All things were made “for” and “by” Jesus for the purpose of “bringing perfect salvation” to “many” people through Jesus' sufferings.

When we meditate upon these words in Hebrews, we understand the reason all things were put under the power and control of Jesus Christ. He made them for the purpose of providing “salvation” to all who believe in Him. The price He paid for “salvation” was the “perfect suffering” He endured during His trial and death upon the cross. Oh the wonder of this great and mighty Creator God, who paid the ultimate perfect price through His sufferings for our salvation!

Next time we see the writer share how “he that sanctifies and they who are sanctified are all of one”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
