Pushing Bicycles

Casting my eyes upon grass-lined field
a mother in tow behind bicycle wheel
twas new painted bike her youth was aboard
attempting his balance lest he'd hit the floor

One push then two but then her son'd fall
and try try again his challenge withal
though scratch he did get from plunging beneath
the little boy tries escape her release

And when he did fall she'd push him again
and hold to his side and help him to win
To start him anew his mother holds fast
for he just a lad who alone cannot last

Till peddle he strides with synchronized charm
and longer and longer he travels from harm
for dare not he quit for he had a mind
with mother's encouraging words near behind

And soon boy left bike with greater to shine
and she one by one would hold him in line
till he could but ride these too on his own
and follow the path that mother had shown

One push then two but then her son'd fall
and try try again his challenge withal
though scratch he did get from plunging beneath
the little boy tries escape her release

And when he did fall she'd push him again
and hold to his side and help him to win
To start him anew his mother holds fast
for he just a lad who alone cannot last

Till peddle he strides with synchronized charm
and longer and longer he travels from harm
for dare not he quit for he had a mind
with mother's encouraging words near behind

And thus he determined to seek her release
as boy turned to man no longer could cease
for grip on his life she no more could hold
she'd have to release him and let him be bold

So tears filled her eyes as she set him free
to be thus the man she'd helped him to be
and watch as he bicycled life on his own
released by his mother whose path she had shown
