In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge”, and in chapter fourteen and verse twenty-seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “in the fear of the LORD is a fountain of life” where we read,
The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
The verse begins, “The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, ...” Solomon began with the words, “the fear” or “the awe, reverence and respect” “of the LORD” which means “pertaining to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God” “is a fountain of life” or “exists as a spring, source and flow belonging to active, fresh and lively living”. Solomon shared how having awe and respect to Jehovah God exists as a flowing source of active and fresh living.
The verse goes on to say, “... to depart from the snares of death.” Solomon continued with the words, “to depart from the snares” or “to be separate an apart from the bait, gins, traps and hooks” “of death” which means “belonging to pestilence, ruin and dying”. Solomon said the “fountain of life” from revering Jehovah God allows a person to separate from the traps of destruction and dying.
When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we learn another benefit to having awe and respect for Jehovah God. Those who revere Him receive a flowing source of active living that helps them to separate from the trappings of destruction and dying. God knows when we hold Him in awe, we are blessed because we do so. Because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and produce in us a flowing source of fresh and active living.
Next time Solomon says, “in the multitude of people is the king's honor”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
