In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips tends only to penury”, and in chapter fourteen and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “the crown of the wise is their riches” where we read,
The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.
The verse begins, “The crown of the wise is their riches:” Solomon began with the words, “the crown of the wise” or “the wreath of splendor belonging to people who are shrewd, skillful and prudent” “is their riches” which means “exists as the shrewd and prudent people's wealth and magnificence”. Solomon shared how the wreath of honor and splendor belonging to people who are prudent and skillful exist as their wealth.
The verse continues, “but the foolishness of fools is folly.” Solomon added the words, “but the foolishness” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the folly and silliness” “of fools” which means “belonging to people who are stupid, dullards, simpletons and arrogant ones” “is folly” or “exists as silliness and foolishness”. Solomon said the reward of people who are dullards and simpletons is foolish acts and deeds.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who act in a shrewd and prudent manner have wealth and splendor as their reward, and unwise people only have silliness to receive. God wants us to be “wise”, and when we follow His “wisdom”, we shall be rewarded according to His Divine purpose and plan. He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to be “wise” to receive His “crown” for us in Heaven. (See Revelation 4:4,10)
Next time Solomon says, “a true witness delivers souls”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
