A Fool's Mouth is His Destruction - Proverbs 18:7

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes”, and in chapter eighteen and verse seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “a fool's mouth is his destruction” where we read,

A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

The verse begins, “A fool's mouth is his destruction, ...Solomon began with the words, “a fool's mouth” or “the orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking that belongs to a simpleton, dullard, arrogant and stupid person whether male or female” “is his destruction” which means “exists as the person's ruin, dismay and terror”. Solomon shared how the “mouth” or speaking of a person who is stupid and arrogant exists as their ruin and dismay

The verse continues, “... and his lips are the snare of his soul.” Solomon added the words, “and his lips” or “and the person's, whether male or female, physical lips used for speaking” “are the snare of his soul” which means “exist as bait, lure, gin or hook belonging to the person's heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotional and passions”. Solomon said the “fool's” physical lips for speaking exist as the gin and trap for their heart, mind and will.

When we consider Solomon's words in this verse, we discover how the speaking from the “mouth” of a simpleton and dullard becomes their ruin, and their physical lips become the trap for their heart, mind and will. Much is revealed through our speech, and because we have sinned including what we have to say, God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins for all of us. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us through His Holy Spirit to say what He has to say and to avoid the lures that desire to trap our “souls”.

Next time Solomon says, “the words of a talebearer are as wounds”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
