Fool's Lips Entering into Contention - Proverbs 18:6

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.”, and in chapter eighteen and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “a fool's lips enter into contention” where we read,

A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes.

The verse begins, “A fool's lips enter into contention, ...Solomon began with the words, “a fool's lips” or “the physical lips used for speaking of a person who is a dullard, simpleton, arrogant and stupid” “enter into contention” which means “come into, attain and bring forth strife, controversy, dispute and quarrel”. Solomon shared how the “lips” for speaking of person whether male or female who is a simpleton and stupid attains strife, controversy and quarreling.

The verse goes on to say, “... and his mouth calls for strokes.” Solomon continued with the words, “and his mouth” or “and his, the person whether male or female's, orifice in the face used for eating, drinking and speaking” “calls for strokes” which means “utters, declares, proclaims and speaks for stamps, impressions or blows”. Solomon said the orifice in the face of the “fool” makes proclamations for stamps and impressions.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who are simpletons and dullards use their voices to bring forth strife and quarreling, and his speech desires to make impressions or to be stricken. God wants us to use the voices He gave us not only to relate to Him, but also bring peace rather than fighting. He gave His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to use our voices to give Him praise and honor and not look for the “strokes” of others.

Next time Solomon says, “a fool's mouth is his destruction”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
