Israel Served the LORD under Joshua - Joshua 24:31

In the book of Joshua, we learned how,“it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old. And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse thirty-one of Joshua, the writer shared how, “Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua” where we read,

And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.

The verse reads, “And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and Israel” whose name means ‘God prevails’ and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “served the LORD” or “worshiped, worked and labored for Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God” “all the days of Joshua” which means “each, the whole and every one of the sunrises to sunsets belonging to Joshua whose name means ‘Jehovah is salvation’ and was the son of Nun of the tribe of Ephraim and successor to Moses as the leader of the children of Israel; led the conquest of Canaan”, “and all the days of the elders” which means “each, the whole and every one of the sunrises to sunsets belonging to the aged, older and ancient men” “that overlived Joshua” whose name means “whose lives were longer than Joshua’s whose name means ‘Jehovah is salvation’”. The writer shared how the people of “Israel” worshiped and labored for Jehovah God in every one of the sunrises and sunsets of “Joshua” and the aged and ancient male leaders who outlived “Joshua” as well.

The verse goes on to say, “… and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and which had known” which means “and who perceived, discerned, discriminated and discerned” “all the works of the LORD” or “each, the whole and every one of the acts and deeds belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”, “that he had done for Israel” which means “that he, Jehovah God, performed and produced on behalf of Israel whose name means ‘God prevails’”. The writer referred to the people of “Israel” who perceived and discerned every one of the acts and deeds that Jehovah God produced and performed on behalf of them.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how the people of “Israel” worshiped and labored for Jehovah God during the time Joshua and the “elders” of Israel ruled especially when they observed and perceived everything that Jehovah God performed and produced on behalf of “Israel”. God loves the people of Israel, and He loves us. He desires to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days. When we surrender to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and give us the ability to worship and “serve” Him all the days of our lives. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)

Next time Joshua or the writer shares how, “the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
