The LORD Gave the Land to Israel - Joshua 21:43

In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs. These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these cities”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse forty-three of Joshua we learn how, “the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he swore to give unto their fathers” where we read, 

And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he swore to give unto their fathers; 

and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.

The verse reads, “And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he swore to give unto their fathers;” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and the LORD” which means “and Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God” “gave unto Israel” or “granted, bestowed and assigned to Israel whose name means ‘God prevails’ and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “all the land” which means “each, every and the whole of the fields, gourds and regions” “which he swore to give” or “that he, Jehovah God, took and oath and promised to grant, bestow and assign” “unto their fathers” which means “to their, the people of Israel’s, male progenitors and ancestors”. Joshua or the writer shared how Jehovah God granted and bestowed to “Israel” every one of the fields and territories that He promised to their forefathers. 

The verse goes on to say, “and they possessed it, and dwelt therein.” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “and they possessed it” which means “and they, the people of Israel, seized, dispossessed, inherited and occupied it, the land”, “and dwelt therein” or “and lived within the land”. Joshua or the writer shared how the people of “Israel” seized the lands given by God and lived within them. 

When we think through the words in this verse, we discover how Jehovah God granted the people of “Israel” every one of the territories that He promised to grant to their male progenitors and forefathers, and they not only seized the territories, but they also lived within them. God desires to have this type of personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we submit to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and empower us to live according to that truth wherever He places us in the world. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelations 4:11)
