Joshua Died - Joshua 24:29

In the book of Joshua, we learned how,“Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD. And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.  So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse twenty-nine of Joshua, Joshua or the writer shared how, “Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died” where we read,

And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

The verse reads, “And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “and it came to pass” which means “and the following happened and occurred” “after these things” or “following Joshua’s charges to the people of Israel and their agreement to serve Jehovah God”, “that Joshua” which means “that Joshua whose name means Jehovah is salvation” and was “of the tribe of Ephraim and successor to Moses as the leader of the children of Israel; led the conquest of Canaan” “the son of Nun” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Nun whose name means ‘fish or posterity”, “the servant of the LORD” which means “the slave, bondman and man of servile condition belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God” “died” or “breathed his last breath and expired”. The writer shared how Nun’s son “Joshua” who was Jehovah God’s servile man breathed His last.

The verse goes on to say, “… being an hundred and ten years old.” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “being an hundred” which means “existing as one hundred” “and ten years old” or “and ten additional annual set of days”. The writer shared how “Joshua” was one hundred and ten years old when He took His last breath and expired. 

When we mediate upon the words in this verse, we learn after all the things done in this book, “Joshua died”. Death is inevitable for all of us because the wages of “sin” is death, and we all have sinned. (See Romans 3:23; 6:23) For this reason Jehovah God sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days. When we put Him first in our lives and believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, give us everlasting life and equip us with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and give us the ability to worship and serve Him all the days of our lives until we meet our appointment with death and go to be with Him. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 4:11)
