In the book of Joshua, we learned how, “Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and said unto them, You have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse three of Joshua we learn how Joshua told the Reubenites, Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh, “you have not left your brethren these many days unto this day” where we read,
You have not left your brethren these many days unto this day,
but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.
The verse reads, “You have not left your brethren these many days unto this day,…” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “you have not left your brethren” which means “you, “Reubenites, Gadites, and half tribe of Manasseh”, have in no way or manner forsaken, abandoned, neglected or apostatized your, the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh’s, kindred, kinsmen and relatives “these many days” or “for the length of this abundant amount of sunrises to sunsets” “unto this day” which means “to the present sunrise to sunset”. Joshua told “the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh” had not forsaken their fellow relatives for a great number of sunrises to sunsets unto the current one.
The verse goes on to say, “… but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.” Joshua or the writer continued with the words, “but have kept the charge” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover have observed and obeyed the order pertaining to the directive” “of the commandment” or “pertaining to the order and charge” “of the LORD your God” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God your, the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh’s, Supreme Deity”. Joshua recalled how “the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh” observed the obligation and injunction belonging to Jehovah God their Supreme Deity.
When we think through the words in this verse, we see how Joshua was aware of how “the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh” continued with their fellow Israelites, and they observed Jehovah God’s charge and orders. God wants us to be obedient to Him, and because Jesus declared, “I am the way, the truth and the life, and no man comes to the father, but by me” (See John 14:6), we must come to God through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the dead after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and give us the ability to live in that truth so our lives will be a witness of His blessings and grace that may be poured out upon everyone. (See John 3:16:16:13; Acts 1:8; Revelation 4:11)
