In the book of Joshua, we learned how,“Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD. And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest you deny your God”, and in chapter twenty-four and verse twenty-eight of Joshua, Joshua or the writer shared how, “Joshua let the people depart” where we read,
So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
The verse reads, “So Joshua let the people depart, …” Joshua or the writer began with the words, “so Joshua” whose name means “therefore, wherefore and on this account Joshua whose name means ‘Jehovah is salvation’ and was “the son of Nun of the tribe of Ephraim and successor to Moses as the leader of the children of Israel; led the conquest of Canaan” “let the people depart” or allow and permit the human beings to leave and be sent away”. Joshua or the writer shared how “Joshua” allowed the people of Israel to leave.
The verse continues, “… every man unto his inheritance.” Joshua or the writer added the words, “every man” which means “each, the whole and all the male human beings” “into his inheritance” or “in to his, the male human being’s, possession, share, portion and heritage”. Joshua or the writer shared how all the male human beings were permitted to leave and go to their portions and possessions.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how “Joshua” allowed the people of Israel to leave him and return to their possessions. God performed His work, and the people of Israel committed themselves to Him. Now life and living was to happen, and because God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and to be raised from the dead after three days, when we submit our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and help us to live as His witnesses wherever He places us in the world. (See John 3:16; Acts 1:8)
