Have You Not Read about the Resurrection? Matthew 22:31

Matthew the apostle wrote how the “Sadducees” desired to know Jesus' answer to which of seven brothers would be married to a woman who was widowed to all of them, and Jesus answered and said unto them, You do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse thirty-one of his book Matthew shared how Jesus asked the “Sadducees”, “have you not read that which was spoken unto you by God” where we read:

But as touching the resurrection of the dead,

have you not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

The verse reads, But as touching the resurrection of the dead, ...” Matthew began with the word, “but as touching” or “moreover and about, concerning, because of and on account of“the resurrection” which means “the raising and rising” “of the dead” which means “pertaining to those who have breathed their last, are deceased and destitute of life”. Matthew shared how Jesus continued His response to the “Sadducees” about the “rising from the dead”.

The verse continues, “... have you not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,” Matthew added the words, “have you not read” which means “is there no way that the Sadducees recognized, distinguished, acknowledged and knew accurately” “that which was spoken” or “the words which were uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto you” which refers to “the Sadducees“by God” which means “through the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”. Matthew shared how Jesus continued His answer to the “Sadducees” by asking them whether they “accurately knew” what God said to them in the scriptures concerning “resurrection”.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus continued to respond to the question about “resurrection”. He questioned them about knowing the Holy Scriptures where God Himself declared Himself to be the current God of people who lived before these “Sadducees”. God wants everyone to realize there is a “resurrection” from the dead, and those who “believe and trust” in His Son Jesus are promised “everlasting life” with God. (See John 3:16). Let all who read these words understand what God has said about the “resurrection” and yield their lives to His Son Jesus as “Savior and Lord” today.

Next time Matthew wrote how Jesus refers to, “the God of Abraham, and God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
