The King Makes a Marriage for His Son - Matthew 22:2

Matthew the apostle wrote how, “Jesus answered and spoke unto them again by parables”, and in chapter twenty-two and verse two of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus told about, “a certain king, which made a marriage for his son” where we read:

The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

The verse reads, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, ...” Matthew began with the words, “the kingdom” which means “the royal power, kingship, dominion and rule” “of heaven” or “belonging to the the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings ” “is like unto” which means “is similar and in likeness to” “a certain king” or “a particular leader of the people, commander and lord of the land”. Matthew shared how Jesus employed the example of a particular “king” to share what “Heaven's Kingdom” is like.

The verse continues, “... which made a marriage for his son,” Matthew added the words, “which made” which means “who made ready and prepared” “a marriage” which means “a wedding festival, banquet or feast” “for his son” or “on behalf of the king's male descendant”. Matthew wrote how the king “prepared” a “wedding banquet and feast” for his son.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see Jesus beginning another “earthly story” to share a “heavenly meaning”, and this time He used a “king” who prepared a “marriage feast” for his son. God in a similar manner has “prepared” a “wedding feast” for His Son Jesus, and everyone is invited. We shall see more details to Jesus' story in the next few verses, however, for now let all who read these words know God invites them to come to His “wedding feast”, and when they yield their lives to Him as “Savior and Lord”, they have accepted His invitation.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus says the king, sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
