Servants Bid to the Wedding - Matthew 22:3

Matthew the apostle wrote how, “Jesus answered and spoke unto” the chief priests and elders in Jerusalem” “again by parables, and said, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,” and in chapter twenty-two and verse three of his book Jesus said the king, “sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding” where we read:

And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.

The verse reads, And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding:” Matthew began with the words, “and sent forth” which means “the king sent out and dismissed” “his servants” or “the king's slaves, bondmen and men of servile condition” “to call them” which means “to invite and salute by name” “that were bidden” or “people who were invited, called and saluted by name” “to the wedding” which means “to come to the marriage festival, banquet and feast for the king's son”. Matthew shared how Jesus said the king “sent out” his “bondmen” to “invite” people whom he desired to come to his son's “wedding feast”.

The verse goes on to say, and they would not come.” Matthew continued with the words, “and they” which means “the people who were invited to the king's wedding feast” “would not come” or “did not desire, have in mind, determine, wish and purpose to appear”. Matthew wrote how the people who were invited to the “king's wedding feast” for his son were not interested in accepting his invitation.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how people rejected the king's offer to come to his son's “wedding feast”. The idea is they had a “choice”, and they chose not to accept the king's invitation. God has extended an invitation to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus Christ, and people have a choice whether or not to accept His request. All who read these words should pay particular attention to what Jesus has to say about this king's “wedding feast” and accept His invitation if they have not done so by now.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus says the king, sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
