The Blind and Lame Healed in the Temple - Matthew 21:14

Matthew the apostle wrote how, “Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but you have made it a den of thieves”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse fourteen of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus said, “the blind and the lame came to him in the temple” where we read:

And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

The verse reads, And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple;”. Matthew began with the words, “and the blind” or “and those with opaque or no vision” “and the lame” which means “those deprived of a foot, maimed, halt, limping and cripple” “came to him” or “drew near to and approached Jesus” “in the temple” which refers to “the sacred place at Jerusalem”. Matthew shared how people who could not see or were limping and cripple approached Jesus in the “temple”.

The verse goes on to say, and he healed them.” Matthew continued with the words, “and he” or “and Jesus” “healed them” which means “relieved, cured and restored to health all of the blind and lame”. Matthew wrote after Jesus cast the buyers and sellers out of the temple, He began to “heal” every person who was “blind or lame” that came to see Him there.

When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how people with infirmities came into the temple after the “business charlatans were cast out”. God wants people to be in a relationship with Him through His Son Jesus, and access to Him should be available at all times. Whenever there are obstacles preventing people from coming to Him, especially when they have needs, Jesus will make a way for people to reach out to Him and plead for their causes as they come unto Him.

Next time Matthew shares what happened, “when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
