Departing and Going Their Way - Acts 21:5

The beloved physician Luke wrote, “And it came to pass, that after we were gotten from them, and had launched, we came with a straight course unto Coos, and the day following unto Rhodes, and from there unto Patara: And finding a ship sailing over unto Phenicia, we went aboard, and set forth. Now when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the ship was to unlade her burden. And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem”, and in chapter twenty-one and verse five of the book of Acts Luke shared, when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our waywhere we read:

And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down on the shore, and prayed.

The verse begins, “And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went our way; Luke began with the words, “and when we had accomplished those days” which means “and at the time and moment we, Luke, Paul and the men traveling with them, furnished perfectly, finished and completed the seven days with the disciples in Tyre”, “we departed and went our way” or “we, Luke, Paul and the men traveling with them, left, went forth and proceeded forth from Tyre to travel again”. Luke shared how he, “Paul” and the men traveling with them completed the seven days with the fellow believers at “Tyre” and left them to continue traveling.

The verse continues, “and they all brought us on our way, with wives and children, till we were out of the city:” Luke added the words, “and they all brought us” which means “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the disciples in Tyre carried themselves alongside, accompanied and escorted Luke, Paul and the others traveling with them” “on our way” or “upon their going forward on their journey”, “with wives and children” which means “along with their female spouses and their offspring and progeny”, “till we were out of the city” or “until we, Luke, Paul and the men traveling with them, had exited the city of Tyre”. Luke shared how the disciples in “Tyre” along with their families accompanied he, “Paul” and the men traveling with them until they had departed from their “city”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn as he, “Paul” and the men traveling with them were leaving “Tyre”, the fellow believers and their families accompanied them. Once again the “disciples of Jesus” were ministering to one another, and even while the believers in “Tyre” visited with “Paul, Luke and the men traveling with them” for “seven days”, there was an appointed time to leave them. The “disciples of “Tyre”, along with their wives and their children, followed “Paul” and his team as they were leaving them, and we can sense the community that was among them as they entered this next phase of their travels. God loves people, and they become part of His family of believers when they put their faith and trust in His Son Jesus. They enjoy community with one another and minister to each other when they separate. Those who are wise become part of the family of God and serve one another while they fulfill the plans and purposes of God.

Next time Luke shares, when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
