No Small Stir - Acts 19:23

Luke the beloved physician wrote how, “Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season”, and in chapter nineteen and verse twenty-three of the book of Acts Luke shared how, there arose no small stir about that waywhere we read:

And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

The verse begins, “And the same time there arose ... Luke began with the words, “and the same time” which means “and according and toward a measure, fixed or definite time” “there arose” or “there came into existence, happened and occurred” the following. Luke shared how the following occurred in a due measure of time.

The verse goes on to say, “... no small stir about that way.” Luke continued with the words, “no small stir” which means “no little commotion or tumult” “about that way” or “concerning the course of conduct that Paul was promoting through the gospel”. Luke shared how there was a large commotion caused by “Paul” promoting the “way” of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn about the effect the “gospel of Jesus Christ” was having among certain people. Not everyone was pleased and accepting of God's “good news” of salvation through belief in His Son Jesus, and we shall see one man in particular who was very adverse to what “Paul” was teaching. The “gospel of Jesus Christ” affects people in one way or another. Either people receive Jesus Christ as their “Lord and Savior” or they refuse and reject Him and many times become demonstrative against Him. God loves everybody, and He will forgive the sins of every person who yields themselves to His Son Jesus. God's offer has been made available since the time Jesus gave His life on the cross, and let us keep in mind, if people refused and rejected Jesus Himself, even to the point of putting Him to death, there will be those who make “no small stir” against Him even now.

Next time Luke shares about,a certain man named Demetrius, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
