Go, and Come Again Neighbor - Proverbs 3:28

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it, and in chapter three and verse twenty-eight of Proverbs Solomon said, say not to your neighbor, go, and come again” where we read,

Say not unto your neighbor, Go, and come again, and tomorrow I will give; when you have it by you.

The verse begins, “Say not unto your neighbor, Go, and come again, .... Solomon began with the words, “say not unto your neighbor” or “do not utter, declare or proclaim to your, the son of Solomon's, companion, friend, fellow-citizen or other person”, “go, and come again” which means “depart, move away and be carried off, and return ”. Solomon instructed his son not to tell his companions or other people to depart and return to him later.

The verse continues, “... and tomorrow I will give; when you have it by you.” Solomon added the words, “and tomorrow I will give” or “and at a future time or the following day I, Solomon's son, shall bestow, grant, ascribe and commit”; “when you have it by you” which means “at the time and moment you, Solomon's son, exist with the substance or what is needed”. Solomon told his son not to delay to a future time to provide for his companion or other person when he already has what they needed in his possession.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son to provide help to others when they asked for it. As long as he had what they needed, he was not to delay in giving it to them. God gives to us, and He does so with His own timing, purpose and plan in mind. When we realize He gave us His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, we may submit to Him, be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and provided with the wisdom to give others as He has given to us.

Next time Solomon says, devise not evil against your neighbor, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
