Not Afraid of Sudden Fear Proverbs 3:25

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said sound wisdom and discretion will be, “be life unto your soul, and grace to your neck. Then shall you walk in your way safely, and your foot shall not stumble. When you lie down, you shall not be afraid: yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet”, and in chapter three and verse twenty-five of Proverbs Solomon said, be not afraid of sudden fear” where we read,

Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes.

The verse begins, “Be not afraid of sudden fear, .... Solomon began with the words, “be not afraid” or “do not exist as dreadful, astonished and terrified” “of sudden fear” which means “pertaining to abrupt and instant terror, dread or alarm”. Solomon instructed his son not to be terrified by instant dread or alarm.

The verse goes on to say, “... neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes.” Solomon continued with the words, “neither of the desolation” or “no and not in any way pertaining to the devastation, ruin and waste” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to the criminal, guilty of crime, evil and hostile to God”, “when it comes” or “at the time and moment it, the desolation of the wicked, arises and appears”. Solomon told his son not to be terrorized when people who are criminal and evil are devastated and ruined.

When we meditate upon Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how he did not want his son to be astonished by fearful things when they come on the scene instantly and with alarm. He also instructed his son not to be terrified by the destruction of people who are criminal and evil when judgment comes upon them. God gives all people warning that life on earth is not forever, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our wickedness, grant us everlasting life and give us courage when “sudden fear” arises and when “wicked” people are destroyed.

Next time Solomon says, the LORD shall be your confidence, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
