In the book of Proverbs Solomon said to his son, “Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes, For the LORD shall be your confidence, and shall keep your foot from being taken”, and in chapter three and verse twenty-seven of Proverbs Solomon said, “withhold not good from them to whom it is due” where we read,
Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
The verse begins, “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, ...”. Solomon began with the words, “withhold not good” or “do not hold back, keep back, refrain or restrain pleasantness, agreeableness, riches and valuables” “from them to whom it is due” which means “separate and apart from the people both male and female who deserve and merit good”. Solomon shared how his son was not to refrain from providing pleasantness and valuables to people who merit them.
The verse goes on to say, “... when it is in the power of your hand to do it.” Solomon continued with the words, “when it is in the power” or “at the time and moment it, the providing of pleasantness and valuables, exists within the might, strength and ability” “of your hand to do it” which means “belonging to your, the son of Solomon's, hand of power, might and strength to produce, provide and accomplish the giving”. Solomon referred to his son having the ability to to provide pleasantness and valuables to people who merit them.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon wanted his son to care for others. Pleasantness, agreeableness and valuables are needed by others at times, and when we have them in our possession and others are in need, we should share. God gives; God loves, and God wants us to be like Him. He gave His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins, and when we surrender to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the desire to be like Him to provide to those who merit provision when it is in our “power” to do so.
Next time Solomon says, “say not to your neighbor, go, and come again”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
