In the book of Proverbs Solomon told his son, “the curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesses the habitation of the just”, and in chapter three and verse thirty-four of Proverbs Solomon said Jehovah God, “scorns the scorners” where we read,
Surely he scorns the scorners: but he gives grace unto the lowly.
The verse begins, “Surely he scorns the scorners:”. Solomon began with the words, “surely he scorns” or “verily and doubtless he, Jehovah God, derides, mocks and scoffs at” “the scorners” which means “”the people who involve themselves in boasting, deriding, scoffing and mocking”. Solomon shared how Jehovah God scoffs at people who mock and deride Him.
The verse continues, “but he gives grace unto the lowly.” Solomon added the words, “but he gives grace” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover he, Jehovah God, provides, grants, bestows, ascribes and consecrates favor, charm, elegance and acceptance” “unto the lowly” which means “toward people who are modest, humble and inferior”. Solomon shared how Jehovah God provides favor and acceptance to people who are humble and modest.
When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how he knew Jehovah God scoffs at people who scoff at Him and His words, however, He provides favor to people who humble themselves before Him. God wants to have a personal intimate relationship with us through His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for our sins, and when we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and ask Him for forgiveness, He provides His “grace” and eternal life as well. God loves us, and rather than be among the people who “scorn and scoff” at His name and ways, let us surrender our lives to Him and be favored.
Next time Solomon says, “the wise shall inherit glory”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
