Belshazzar Slain - Daniel 5:30

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how Belshazzar was greatly troubled because he saw a hand writing on the wall, and when his wise men were not able to tell him what the writing said or meant, he called for Daniel who said, “this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it. TEKEL; You are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting. PERES; Your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians. Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom”, and in chapter five and verse thirty of his book, Daniel said, “in that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain” where we read,

In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.

The verse reads, “In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.” Daniel began with the words, “in that night” or “within that very nighttime” “Belshazzar the king” which means “Belshazzar whose name means ‘Bel protect the king’ the royal ruler and leader‘ “of the Chaldeans” or “belonging to the clod breakers and were the inhabitants of Chaldea who were living on the lower Euphrates and Tigris” “slain” which means “killed”. Daniel said within the very nighttime of all the previous events, King Belshazzar was killed.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how King Belshazzar indeed was to have his royal reign removed from him. On the very nighttime after Daniel’s interpretation to the writing on the wall, Belshazzar was killed. God’s timing for King Belshazzar was complete, and his rule was over. The Medes and Persians overtook the kingdom of Babylon, and Belshazzar was a casualty in that takeover. God will also judge every person, and because we have sin in our lives, like King Belshazzar, we shall all give an account before Him. For this reason God sent His Son Jesus into the world to pay the price of death on the cross for our sins, and when God raised Him from the dead after three days, as we put our faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life, cleanse us from all unrighteousness and  become our justification through grace as we stand before Him one day. (See Romans 5:1,9; 8:30; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Galatians 2:16-17; 3:11,24)

Next time Daniel says, “Darius the Median took the kingdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
