Wise Man Could Not Show the Interpretation - Daniel 5:15

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how Belshazzar was greatly troubled because he saw a hand writing on the wall, and when his wise men were not able to tell him what the writing said or what it meant, he said,  let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation. Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spoke and said unto Daniel, Are you that Daniel, which are of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry? I have even heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in you”, and in chapter five and verse fifteen of his book Daniel shared how King Belshazzar told Daniel how his wise men, “could not show the interpretation of the thing” where we read,

And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not show the interpretation of the thing:

The verse reads, “And now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof:” Daniel began with the words, “and now the wise men” or “and at this time the learned or male human beings filled with wisdom”, “the astrologers” which means “ the conjurers, enchanters and necromancers”, “have been brought in before me” or “have been carried in and presented in front and in the presence of me, King Belshazzar”, “that they should read this writing” which means “so they, the wise men and astrologers could read the engraving and inscription upon the wall”, “and make known unto me” or “and reveal, expose and certify to me, King Belshazzar” “the interpretation thereof” which means “the meaning or rendering of the writing on the wall”. Daniel shared how King Belshazzar referred to the learned men and enchanters were carried into his presence so they could read the inscription upon the wall and tell him what it meant.

The verse goes on to say, “… but they could not show the interpretation of the thing:” Daniel continued with the words, “but they could not show” which means “however, notwithstanding, nonetheless and moreover they, the wise men, were unable to reveal, interpret, inform or tell” “the interpretation of the thing” or “the rendering and meaning belonging to the writing on the wall”. Daniel shared how King Belshazzar said the “wise men and astrologers” were unable to read or interpret what the inscription said.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel that once again the “wise men and astrologers” in the Babylonian Kingdom were unable to do their job. God reserved this message for his servant Daniel, and we shall see how God gives Daniel not only what the “writing” said, but also what it meant for King Belshazzar. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. He raised Him from the dead after three days so all who believe and trust in Him may be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and given gifts which may be used by the Holy Spirit of God according to His purposes and plans for their own lives and for the lives of others.

Next time Daniel shares how King Belshazzar tells Daniel, “I have heard of you, that you can make interpretations”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
