I Have Heard of Daniel - Daniel 5:14

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how Belshazzar was “greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied” because of a writing on the wall. “Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spoke and said, O king, live for ever: let not your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed . There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, your father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers. Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and showing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation. Then was Daniel brought in before the king. And the king spake and said unto Daniel, Are you that Daniel, which are of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Jewry?”, and in chapter five and verse fourteen of his book Daniel shared how King Belshazzar told Daniel, “I have even heard of you” where we read,

I have even heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you,

and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in you.

The verse reads, “I have even heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, …” Daniel began with the words, “I have even heard of you” or “I, King Belshazzar, have audibly heard about you, Daniel”, “that the spirit” which means “that the mind” “of the gods” or “belonging to the deities” “is in you” which means “exists within you, Daniel”. Daniel shared how King Belshazzar told him that he heard that Daniel had the mind of the deities within him.

The verse continues, “… and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in you.” Daniel added the words, “and that light” which means “and that illumination” “and understanding” or “intelligence and insight” “and excellent wisdom” which means “and pre-eminent, surpassing, extreme and extraordinary sagacity, experience and good judgment” “is found in you” or “is discovered and disclosed within you, Daniel”. Daniel shared how King Belshazzar also recognized that intelligence, surpassing experience and good judgment was within Daniel.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how his reputation preceded him. King Belshazzar “heard” about Daniel, and he understood that the mind of the deities was within him. He knew that intelligence, extraordinary experience and good judgment were in Daniel as well. All of these traits were given to Daniel by Jehovah God, and He will bless anyone who yields their life to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bless us with His Holy Spirit who shall give us gifts to use in His Kingdom as He desires and pleases. (See 1 Corinthians 12:11)

Next time Daniel shares how King Belshazzar tells Daniel how his wise men, “could not show the interpretation of the thing”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
