Characteristics Found in Daniel - Daniel 5:12

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how King Belshazzar was “greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied” because of a writing on the wall. “Now the queen, by reason of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spoke and said, O king, live for ever: let not your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance be changed . There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, was found in him; whom the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, your father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers”, and in chapter five and verse twelve of his book Daniel shared how the queen said what was, “found in Daniel” where we read,

Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and showing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.

The verse reads, “Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and showing of hard sentences, …” Daniel began with the words, “forasmuch as” or “because, in view of and by reason that” “an excellent spirit” which means “a pre-eminent, extreme and extraordinary mind”, “and knowledge” or “and wisdom, power of knowing and reason”, “and understanding” which means “and insight or intelligence”, “interpreting of dreams” or “rendering and meaning pertaining to mental imageries”, “and showing of hard sentences” which means “and declaring pertaining to puzzles and riddles” along with the following are discovered within the man. Daniel shared how the “queen” also told King Belshazzar that a pre-eminent mind, wisdom, intelligence, rendering of mental imageries and declaring riddles as well as the following were within the man in Belshazzar’s kingdom.

The verse continues, “… and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.” Daniel added the words, “and dissolving of doubts” which means “and loosening pertaining to problems, difficulties and riddles”, “were found in the same Daniel” or “were discovered within the selfsame Daniel whose name means God is my judge”, “whom the king” which means “in which the royal ruler and leader” “named Belteshazzar” or “called Daniel Belteshazzar whose name means lot of the straitened’s treasure”: “now let Daniel be called” which means “at this time allow and permit Daniel whose name means God is my judge be summoned”, “and he will show the interpretation” or “and he, Daniel, shall explain, inform and declare the rendering and meaning”. Daniel shared how the “queen” referred to how King Nebuchadnezzar renamed him Belteshazzar and continued to describe his characteristics, and she included how he was able to unravel riddles and give the meanings of “dreams”. She also told “King Belshazzar” to summon Daniel, and he would tell him the meaning of the writing on the wall.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Daniel how the “queen” continued to speak to King Belshazzar about Daniel. She referred to his extraordinary mind, wisdom, intelligence and ability to render the meaning for mental imageries as well as the unraveling of difficult writings and loosening problems. Daniel was renamed “Belteshazzar” by King Nebuchadnezzar, and because he had such a great reputation, the “queen” told “Belshazzar” to summon him and he would reveal the meaning of the writing on the wall. God’s plan was to use Daniel once again to reveal His purposes in this circumstance, and He will use us as well when we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days. When we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with the gifts of His Holy Spirit so we also may be used in His Kingdom.

Next time Daniel shares how King Belshazzar asks, “are you Daniel?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
