No Need for the Sun or Moon Revelation 21:23

After all the events of the tribulation period, the millennial reign of Jesus and the “Great White Throne” judgment, John the apostle wrote, “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” John described the heavenly city as he wrote, “And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald; The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it”, and in Revelation chapter twenty-three John shares how, “the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon” where we read:

And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it:
for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
The verse reads, And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: John began with the words, “and the city” which means “and the heavenly dwelling, place and abode” “had no need” or “no reason to have the sun in the sky”, “neither” which means “nor and in no way” “of the moon” or “of the reflecting night sky light”, “to shine” which means “to bring forth bright or resplendent light” “in it” or “within the heavenly city”. John saw how there was no need for the “sun” or “moon” within the “heavenly city” to give it light.

The verse continues, “for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. ” John added the word, “for” which means “because, since and on account of” “the glory” which refers to “the splendor, brightness, honor and magnificence” “of God” or “belonging to the Godhead trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “did lighten it” which means “to enlighten, illuminate and bring to light”, “and the Lamb” or “the little lamb which refers to Jesus” “is the light thereof” or “exists as the candle or lamp of the city”. John shared how God's “glory” and Jesus Christ “illuminate” the “heavenly city”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we discover the lack of need for the “sun, moon or light” which are currently known. God's “glory” and His Son Jesus will “illuminate” the “heavenly city”, and there will be no need for any other lighting. God desires to bring His “light” into every person's life, and because Jesus is “the light of the world” (See John 8:12, 9:5), anyone who receives Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” shall know the beginning of the enlightenment that God shall provide forever.

Next time John shares how “the nations of them which are save shall walk in the light of it, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
