After
sharing much of the beauty of the heavenly city and looking upon the
wonders that shall be there, Jesus declared to John the apostle,
“Behold, I come quickly: blessed is
he that keeps the sayings of the prophecy of this book.” John
continued,
“And
I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and
seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which
showed me these things. Then said he unto me, See you do it not: for
I am your fellow-servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of
them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.” John
added, “And
he said unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book:
for the time is at hand. He
that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let
him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous
still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I
come quickly; and my reward is
with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha
and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed
are
they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree
of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For
without are
dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters,
and whosoever loves and makes a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to
testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the
offspring of David, and
the bright and morning star.” In
Revelation chapter twenty-two and verse seventeen John declares, “and
the Spirit and the bride say, Come”
where
we read:
And
the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say, Come.
And
let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the
water of life freely.
The
verse reads, “And
the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that hears say,
Come.”
John began with the words, “And
the Spirit”
which means “the third person of the triune God who is coequal and
coeternal with the Father and the Son” “and
the bride”
which refers to “the young wife which represents the church”
“say”
which means “utter, proclaim and declare”, “Come”
or
“arise, come forth, find place and enter”. “And
let him”
or “allow and permit the person whether male or female” “that
hears”
which refers to “who is given the faculty of hearing, perceiving,
understanding and attending”
“say”
or “utter, proclaim and declare”, “Come”
which means “arise, come forth, find place and enter”. John
shared how “God's Spirit”, “the
bride”
and those who “hear”
the words proclaimed give and invitation to “come”.
The
verse goes on to say, “And
let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the
water of life freely.”
John continued with the words, “And
let him”
which means “allow and permit the person whether male or female”
“that
is athirst” which
refers to “who is thirsty or suffer from thirst” “come”
which means “arise, come forth, find place and enter”. “And
whosoever will”
or “whatever person has in mind, intends, is resolved, determined
or purposed”,
“let him”
which means “allow and permit that person whether male or female”
“take”
or “lay hold of, carry away, claim and procure” “the
water”
which refers to “the flowing waters” “of
life” or
“pertaining to real and genuine life which is active and vigorous,
devoted to God, blessed in the portion even in this world of those
who put their trust in Christ, but after the resurrection to be
consummated by new accessions (among them a more perfect body), and
to last for ever” “freely”
which means “undeservedly, without a cause and gratuitously”.
John heard the invitation for anyone who is “thirsty” to “come”
receive of the “water
of life”
undeservedly .
When
we think through John's words in this verse, we see God's invitation
through “His Spirit”, “the bride” and those who “hear”
toward people who are “thirsty” for Him. When they accept His
invitation and “come”, they shall be allowed to drink from
the “water of life” without charge. God paid the price for
people's sin by sending His Son Jesus to die in their place, and
those who receive Him as “Savior and Lord” shall have
“everlasting life” with Him. Let all who read these words hear
the invitation of the Lord and “come”.
Next
time John declares Jesus' words,
“I
testify unto every man that hears the words of the prophecy of this
book”
more, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

tomorrow…there is more…
