After
sharing much of the beauty of the heavenly city and looking upon the
wonders that shall be there, Jesus declared to John the apostle,
“Behold, I come quickly: blessed is
he that keeps the sayings of the prophecy of this book.” John
continued,
“And
I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and
seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which
showed me these things. Then said he unto me, See you do it not: for
I am your fellow-servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of
them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.” John
added, “And
he said unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book:
for the time is at hand. He
that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let
him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous
still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I
come quickly; and my reward is
with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha
and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed
are
they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree
of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For
without are
dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters,
and whosoever loves and makes a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to
testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the
offspring of David, and
the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come.
And let him that hears say, Come. And let him that is athirst come.
And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. For I
testify unto every man that hears the words of the prophecy of this
book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him
the plagues that are written in this book. And if any man shall take
away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away
his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from
the things which are written in this book.” In
Revelation chapter twenty-two and verse twenty John shares how Jesus
told him again, “Surely
I come quickly”
where
we read:
He
which testifies these things says, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even
so, come, Lord Jesus.
The
verse reads, “He
which testifies these things says, Surely I come quickly.”
John began with the words, “He
which testifies”
which means “the certain One which is Jesus who bears witness,
affirms and gives report of” “these
things”
which refers to “the things which were written in this book”
“says”
or “utters, declares and proclaims”, “Surely”
or
“verily, truly, assuredly and even so” “I
come”
or “Jesus will appear, arise, come forth and show himself”
“quickly”
which means “speedily, without delay and readily”. Jesus once
again declared that He will return “speedily and without delay”.
The
verse goes on to say, “Amen.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”
John continued with the word, “Amen”
which means “so it is, so be it and may it be fulfilled”. “Even
so” or
“yes, verily, truly and assuredly”, “come”
which means “appear, arise, come forth and show yourself”, “Lord”
or “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power
of deciding; master and the title given to God the Messiah”
“Jesus”
or “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose
name means Jehovah is Salvation”. John confirmed Jesus' words and
reiterated that He should indeed “arise and appear”.
When
we think through John's words in this verse, we see how Jesus
confirmed His “coming again”, and John agreed with Him and
appealed for Jesus to do so. Almost two thousand years ago Jesus said
this to John, and He is that much closer to coming now than He was
then. God desires to have a relationship with every person through
Jesus Christ His Son, and those who yield their lives to Him shall
enjoy “everlasting life” with Him and should be looking
for His imminent return. “Even so, come Lord Jesus”.
Next
time we finish the book of Revelation as we see John shares about,
“the
grace of our Lord Jesus Christ”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
