Worship and Gifts to King Jesus Matthew 2:11

Matthew shared what happened when the “wise men”, “ heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy”, and in chapter two and verse eleven of his book, Matthew shares how the “wise men” “worshiped” and “presented unto him gifts” where we read:

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
The verse reads, And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: Matthew began with the words, “and when they were come” which means “and at the time and moment the wise men arrived and entered” “into the house” or “in the inhabited edifice or dwelling”, “they saw or “the wise men discovered, recognized and detected” “the young child” which means “the little toddler and boy”; “with Mary” or “alongside and together with Mary whose name means their rebellion” “his mother” which means “Jesus' mother Mary”; “and fell down” or “descended from a higher place to a lower and prostrated themselves”, “and worshiped him” which means “and made obeisance toward, gave homage to , revered and adored the young child”. Matthew shared how the “wise men” entered into the “house” over where the “star” was standing, “prostrated” themselves, made obeisance to and revered Jesus.

The verse goes on to say, and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. Matthew added the words, “and when” which means “and at the time and moment” “they had opened” or “the wise men opened up” “their treasures” which refers to “the wise mens' precious things and wealth”, “they presented” which means “the wise men tendered, offered and brought” “unto him” which refers to “to the little child” “gifts” or “presents offered in expression of honor” “gold” which refers to “precious things made of gold”, “and frankincense” or “perfume from an incense tree”, “and myrrh” which is “a bitter gum and costly perfume which exudes from a certain tree or shrub in Arabia and Ethiopia or is obtained by incisions made in the bark and as an antiseptic it was used for embalming”. Matthew shared how the “wise men” brought “valuable presents” to Jesus which were made of “gold, expensive perfume and embalming ointment”.

When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how the “wise men” came prepared to “worship” and present “gifts” to the new King of the Jews. The “star” lead them to this “house”, (notice that it is not the manger site), and came to the “young child”. “Some may say that gold speaks of royalty, incense speaks of divinity, and myrrh speaks of death”, however, the “wise men” simply honored and worshiped Jesus with their offerings. God designed for His Son Jesus to be honored by those who came from afar, and they brought “gifts” to Him because He deserves all “glory, honor and praise”. May all who read these words consider the Messiah King Jesus and give honor, worship and “gifts” unto Him for He is worthy of all our praise.

Next time Matthew shares how the “wise men” were, “warned of God in a dream, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
