After
all the events of the tribulation period, the millennial reign of
Jesus and the “Great
White Throne”
judgment, John the apostle wrote, “And
I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the
first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John
saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” John
added, “and
I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of
God is
with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people,
and God himself shall be with them, and
be
their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and
there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither
shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.
And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning
and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of
the water of life freely. He that overcomes shall inherit all things;
and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and
unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and
sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the
lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven
vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying,
Come here, I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife”,
and
in
Revelation chapter twenty-one and verse ten John was shown, “the
great city, the holy Jerusalem”
where
we read:
And
he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain,
and
showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of
heaven from God,
The
verse reads, “And
he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain,
...”
John began with the words, “and
he carried me away”
which means “and the angel bore John off” “in
the spirit”
or “into the spiritual realm” “to
a great”
which means “to a massive, abundant and large” “and
high”
or “lofty, exalted and eminent” “mountain”
which refers to “a lifting above the plain”. John was taken by
the “angel”
to a “huge and lofty” “mountain”.
The
verse goes on to say, “... and
showed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of
heaven from God.”
John continued with the words, “and
showed me”
which means “and exposed and gave evidence and proof by words and
teaching” “that
great city”
which means “the massive, abundant and large abode of the blessed
in heaven”, “the
holy”
or “the pure, morally blameless, and religiously and ceremonially
consecrated” “Jerusalem”
which means “set you at double peace and is the City of God founded
by Christ”, “descending”
or “coming down from the upper regions of the air” “out
of heaven”
which means “out from the region above the sidereal heavens and the
seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God
dwells and other heavenly beings” “from
God”
or “from the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God
the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. John watched as
“holy
Jerusalem”
“came down” from the “heavenly realm” from “God Almighty”.
When
we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we might imagine the
“glory” of this “heavenly New
Jerusalem”
as it “came down” from
“heaven”
before John's eyes. What a privilege it was for John to see these
things, and yet, God desires for everyone to have a relationship with
Him through His Son Jesus Christ and they too shall enjoy this
wonderful “city”.
May all who read these words consider this beautiful “bride” of
Christ and become a part of His church today.
Next
time
John shares how the city had,
“the glory of God”,
so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until
tomorrow…there is more…
