Jesus is the Christ - Matthew 16:16

Matthew the apostle wrote, “When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. And they said, Some say that you are John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. He said unto them, But whom say you that I am?”, and in chapter sixteen and verse sixteen of his book, Matthew shares how Peter answered Jesus by saying, “you are the Christ, the Son of the living God” where we read:

And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

The verse reads, And Simon Peter answered and said, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and Simon Peter” whose name means “a rock or stone” and was “one of the twelve disciples” “answered” or “responded and began to speak” “and said” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed”. Matthew shared how “Peter” began to respond to Jesus' question as to who they thought He was.

The verse continues, ... You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matthew added the words, “you are the Christ” which means “Jesus you are the anointed One, the Son of God and God's Messiah”, “the Son” which means “the offspring and descendant” “of the living God” or “belonging to the active, fresh, strong, efficient, powerful and efficacious Godhead and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”. Matthew shared how Peter recognized Jesus as the “living” God's Messiah.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Peter recognized Jesus for who He truly is. Jesus is God's Messiah, and anyone who considers Jesus must decide whether they believe this to be true. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to save people from their sins which brings them into a loving personal relationship with Himself. Those who profess the same as Peter shall be “saved” and receive everlasting life from God.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus tells Peter, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
