The Woman Worships Jesus - Matthew 15:25

Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus, departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, you Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she cries after us. But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel”, and in chapter fifteen and verse twenty-five of his book, Matthew shares how the woman, “came … and worshiped him” where we read:

Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me.

The verse reads, Then came she and worshiped him, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “then came” which means “at that time and moment approached and came near” “she” or “the woman who had a daughter grievously vexed with a devil” “and worshiped him” which means “and adored, fell on her knees and touched the ground with her forehead as an expression of profound reverence and showed homage to Jesus”. Matthew shared how the woman with the “demon possessed” daughter came to Jesus and “adored” Him.

The verse continues, ... saying, Lord, help me. Matthew continued with the word, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” “help me” or “succor and bring aid to her”. Matthew shared how the woman begged Jesus to “assist” her and answer her request.

When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see the desperation of this woman and her acknowledgment that Jesus could “help her”. She recognized the power within Jesus over “demonic” activity, and she “worshiped” Jesus in her plea. God desires for people to believe in Him and trust that He is able to help them in all their areas of need, and when they understand the “power” the devil had over their lives and they yield themselves to Him, He is more than able to put to flight any evil foe that keeps them from being in a relationship with Him.

Next time Matthew shares how Jesus told the woman, “it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to the dogs, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
