Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom. And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you will, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear you him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only”, and in chapter seventeen and verse nine of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus commanded Peter, James and John to, “tell the vision to no man” where we read:
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying,
Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
The verse reads, “And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and as they came down” or “as the disciples and Jesus descended” “from the mountain” or “apart and away from the lifting above the plain”, “Jesus” whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “charged them” or “ordered and commanded Peter, James and John”, “saying” which means “uttering, declaring and proclaiming”. Matthew shared how Jesus, Peter, James and John descended from the mountain where He was transfigured before them, and Jesus commanded them with the following statement.
The verse continues, “... Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.” Matthew added the words, “tell the vision” or “speak about the spectacle and sight which was divinely granted” “to no man” which means “to not one person whether male or female”, “until” or “till or even unto” “the Son of man” which refers to “Jesus the Son of God” “be risen again” which means “is raised up and appears” “from the dead” or “out of the place where people are destitute of life, inanimate, deceased, departed, lifeless and have breathed their last”. Matthew shared how Jesus told His disciples not to reveal what they saw on the mountaintop until He had “risen and resurrected” “from the dead”.
When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus had His reason and timing for everything including the revelation of this vision seen by Peter, James and John. After Jesus died, Peter, James and John spoke of what they saw, but until then, they were commanded not to say anything to anyone about it. God loves people, and because He wants them to live with Him eternally, His plan for “salvation” from sins needed to be performed just as prophesied. Let all who read these words consider the “revelation” that was told by Peter, James and John after Jesus was “risen again” and submit their lives to the only One who is able to “save” unto everlasting life.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus' disciples, “asked him saying, why then say the scribes that Elijah must come first?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
