Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus said, “There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom”, and in chapter seventeen and verse one of his book, Matthew shares how, “Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother and brought them up into a high mountain” where we read:
And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother,
and brought them up into a high mountain apart,
The verse reads, “And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, ...”. Matthew began with the words, “and after six days” or “and when six sunrises to sunsets were expired” “Jesus” whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “took Peter” or “received and joined Himself to Peter whose name means a rock or stone”, “James” which means “supplanter and was the brother of John”, “and John” which means “Jehovah is a gracious giver” “his brother” or “James' brother by blood”. Matthew shared how Jesus “took” three of His disciples, “Peter, James and John” with Him “six days” after making His statement about some of the “disciples” not seeing “death” before they saw Him in His Kingdom.
The verse goes on to say, “... and brought them up into a high mountain apart,” Matthew continues with words, “and brought them up” which means “carried and lead Peter, James and John” “into a high mountain” or “to a lofty and exalted lifting above the plain” “apart” or “separate, private and alone”. Matthew shared how Jesus lead Peter, James and John to an “private and exalted mountainous place”
When we consider Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus fulfilled His words concerning some of His disciples not “dying” before they saw Him in His Kingdom. Jesus lead “Peter, James and John” into a “separated and alone place” upon a mountain where He would allow them to see things beyond their ability to understand. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person, and when they submit their lives to His Son Jesus who came to die for their sins, they shall be brought to a place of solitary intimacy with Him alone.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus, “was transfigured before them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
