Matthew the apostle wrote how Jesus, “began … to show unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from you, Lord: this shall not be unto you. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: you are an offense unto me: for you savor not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”, and in chapter sixteen and verse twenty-seven of his book, Matthew shares how Jesus declares, “the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels” where we read:
For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels;
and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
The verse reads, “For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels;”. Matthew began with the word, “for” or “because, since and on account that” “the Son of man” which means “the kinship and progeny of God” “shall come” or “will arise and appear” “in the glory” which means “in the praise, honor, splendor and brightness” “of his Father” which means “belonging to Jesus' generator and originator” “with his angels” or “alongside Jesus' messengers and envoys”. Matthew shared how Jesus said he would “appear” with God's glory alongside His “messengers and envoys”.
The verse goes on to say, “and then he shall reward every man according to his works.” Matthew continued with the words, “and then” which means “and at that time and moment” “he shall reward” or “Jesus will deliver, discharge, pay and produce wages, debt and tribute to” “every man” or “each, all and the whole of people whether male or female” “according to” which means “toward, down from and throughout” “his works” or “that person's doings, business, deals and transactions”. Matthew shared how every person will be “rewarded” by Jesus for the “deeds and business” he or she has done.
When we meditate upon Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus declared He would “return” to the earth with “God's glory” and His “angels”, and afterward He will “discharge and deliver” to every person “rewards” for their “efforts” in His Kingdom. God not only desires to have a relationship with people through His Son, but He has promised to “reward” those who practice “good deeds” and “efforts” within His Kingdom. Let all who read these words understand that Jesus will come again, and His“angels” and “reward” will be with Him for those who trust in His name.
Next time Matthew writes how Jesus says, “there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
