Abide in the House You Enter - Mark 6:10

Mark wrote how Jesus, “called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits. And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse. But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats”, and in chapter six and verse ten of his book, Mark wrote how Jesus told His disciples they should “abide”, “in what place soever you enter into an house” where we read:

And he said unto them, In what place soever you enter into an house,

there abide till you depart from that place.

The verse reads, “And he said unto them, In what place soever you enter into an house, ...” Mark began with the words, “and he said unto them” or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed to His disciples”, “in what place soever” which refers to “in whichever spot the disciples came” “you enter into an house” or “the disciples come forth and make entrance into a person's home, dwelling, sleeping place or habitation”. Mark shared how Jesus began to give His disciples instructions for when they entered a person's home.

The verse goes on to say, “... there abide till you depart from that place.” Mark continued with the words, “there abide” which means “in that house remain, tarry, sojourn and do not depart” “till you depart” or “until the time when the disciples left and went out” “from that place” which means “from that house or dwelling place”. Mark shared how Jesus said His disciples were not to leave the home in which they entered until it was time for them to leave that area.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus did not want His disciples going from house to house when they entered an area to minister. They were to “abide” within the first home that opened their doors to them, and they were not to “depart” from there until they were to leave that village or town. God did not want His disciples to learn “dependence” nor “opulence” when they were serving Him, and they were to be gracious and grateful for the provision within the first home in which they stayed. These guidelines from Jesus were meant to have His disciples know who was responsible for their “protection and provision”, and when they learned to “rely upon Him”, they would never have need for anyone else to supply their needs.

Next time Mark shares how Jesus tells His disciples, “whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when you depart there, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
