In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “a faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies”, and in chapter fourteen and verse six of Proverbs Solomon said, “a scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not” where we read,
A scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understands.
The verse begins, “A scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not:” Solomon began with the words, “a scorner seeks wisdom” or “a person who talks arrogantly, boasts and shows themselves to be a mocker requires, exacts and requests skill, shrewdness and prudence”, “and finds it not” which means “and does not in any way or manner discover, detect or observe it, wisdom”. Solomon shared how the person who talks arrogantly and is a mocker searches for “wisdom” but does not discover or observe it.
The verse goes on to say, “but knowledge is easy unto him that understands.” Solomon continued with the words, “but knowledge is easy” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover perception, skill and understanding exists as swift, trifling, of little amount and light” “unto him that understands” which means “toward the person whether male or female who discerns, perceives, distinguishes and considers”. Solomon said perception and understanding exists as swift and light to the person who discerns and distinguishes.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon that “wisdom” is not only important to a person, but also the attitude and posture of the person to receive “wisdom” is important as well. When we “seek” God's wise words, we shall find them, however, if we are mockers and act in arrogant ways, we will miss the “understanding and knowledge” He has for us. God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for our sins. When we believe and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the proper attitude to receive all the “wisdom” and “understanding” He has planned for us.
Next time Solomon says, “go from the presence of a foolish man”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
