A Way that Seems Right - Proverbs 14:12

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish”, and in chapter fourteen and verse twelve of Proverbs Solomon said, “there is a way which seems right unto a man” where we read,

There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

The verse begins, “There is a way which seems right unto a man, ...” Solomon began with the words, “there is a way” or “there exists a path, journey, traveled road, habit, course of life and manner” “that seems right” which means “that has the presence, surface and face of being straight, upright, correct, fitting and proper” “unto to a man” or “to a person whether male or female”. Solomon shared how there is a course of life that has the appearance of being correct and fitting to a person.

The verse continues, “... but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Solomon added the words, “but the end thereof” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the after part, latter time or future and hinder-most portion” “are the ways of death” which means “exists as the path, journey, traveled road, habit, course of life and manner belonging to pestilence, ruin and dying”. Solomon said although the path and journey of a person appears to be correct, the after part and future of that path and journey leads a person to ruin and “death”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there exists a course of life that appears to be the correct one, however, the completion of that path leads to ruin and destruction. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, and no man comes to the Father, but by me” (See John 14:6), and although other paths to God may “seem” to be correct because they do not have immediate consequences, there is only one path according to Jesus to have a personal relationship with God. Jesus was sent into the world by His Father God to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and walk with the company of God's Holy Spirit to guide them to eternal life. All other paths may “seem right”, but their “end” will be destruction, ruin and eternal separation from God. (See Matthew 7:23; 25:41)

Next time Solomon says, “even in laughter the heart is sorrowful”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
