Evil Pursues Sinners - Proverbs 13:21

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that walks with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “evil pursues sinners” where we read,

Evil pursues sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

The verse begins, “Evil pursues sinners:” Solomon began with the word, “evil” or “bad, unkindness, wickedness, misery, injury, calamity, distress, adversity and wrong” “pursues sinners” which means “follows after, attends closely to and aims to secure criminals, ones guilty of crime and offenders”. Solomon shared how wickedness and misery follows people who are criminal and guilty of crimes.

The verse goes on to say, “but to the righteous good shall be repaid.” Solomon continued with the words, “but to the righteous” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover toward the right, just, lawful and correct” “good shall be repaid” or “pleasantness, agreeableness, excellence and value will be complete, finished, ended, recompensed and rewarded”. Solomon said people who act in a right and just manner will be recompensed and rewarded for their behavior.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how wickedness follows after people who are guilty of violating the laws of God (sin), and people who seek to be lawful and correct will be recompensed with excellence and pleasantness. God knows, “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (See Romans 3:23), and “the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. (See Romans 6:23) This is why He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us by His Holy Spirit the value and reward for being lawful and correct.

Next time Solomon says, “a good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
