In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “every wise woman builds her house: but the foolish plucks it down with her hands”, and in chapter fourteen and verse two of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD” where we read,
He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.
The verse begins, “He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD:” Solomon began with the words, “he that walks” or “the person whether male or female who makes their way, proceeds, departs, moves and ambles about” “in his uprightness” which means “within the person's straightness, evenness and righteousness” “fears the LORD” or “is reverent, in awe and afraid of Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Solomon shared how the person who proceeds in their “uprightness” is in awe and reverence of Jehovah God.
The verse goes on to say, “but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.” Solomon continued with the words, “but he that is perverse” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the person who exists as wrong, crooked and lost” “in his ways” which means “within the person's traveled road, journey, path and manner” “despises him” or “disdains, scorns and holds him, Jehovah God, in contempt”. Solomon said the person who is crooked and lost holds in contempt and disdains Jehovah God.
When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a difference between people who revere Jehovah God and make their way in a correct and lawful manner and those who scorn Jehovah God by living in a crooked and lost manner. God wants us to be “holy as He is holy” (See 1 Peter 1:16), and because we have sin in our lives, we must receive His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for ours sin as our personal “Savior and Lord”. When we have faith and trust in Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us live in a “upright” manner before Him by the help of His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth. (See John16:13)
Next time Solomon says, “in the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
