In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses instruction: but he that regards reproof shall be honored”, and in chapter thirteen and verse nineteen of Proverbs Solomon said, “the desire accomplished is sweet to the soul” where we read,
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
The verse begins, “The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul:” Solomon began with the words, “the desire accomplished” or “the existence, happening and coming to pass of the wish, longings, lust, appetite and covetousness” “is sweet” which means “exists as pleasant and agreeable” “to the soul” or “to the heart, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections”. Solomon shared how the coming to pass of a longing exists as pleasant and agreeable to the heart, mind and will of a person.
The verse goes on to say, “but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.” Solomon continued with the words, “but it is abomination to fools” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the following exists as disgusting, unclean and abhorrent to people who are dullards, stupid and silly” “to depart from evil” or “to turn aside, be removed from or leave undone bad, disagreeableness, malignancy, unpleasantness and miserable wickedness”. Solomon said people who are dullards and stupid consider it abhorrent to turn aside and away from malignancy and wickedness.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how there is a great difference between people who receive something good desired within their heart and mind and those who consider it disgusting to turn away from wickedness and bad. God wants everyone to turn away from “evil”, and because He loves us, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins, errors and wrongs of all mankind. Regardless of how wicked we have been, when we humble ourselves, repent of our sins and believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and sweetly fulfill what should be the greatest “desire” of our lives.
Next time Solomon says, “he that walks with wise men shall be wise”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
