In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor hears not rebuke”, and in chapter thirteen and verse nine of Proverbs Solomon said, “the light of the righteous rejoices” where we read,
The light of the righteous rejoices: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
The verse begins, “The light of the righteous rejoices:” Solomon began with the word, “the light” or “the bright, clear and happy illumination” “of the righteous” which means “belonging to people who are right, just, lawful and correct” “rejoices” or “exults, makes glad and gleeful”. Solomon shared how the bright illumination of people who are lawful and just exults and exists as joyful.
The verse goes on to say, “but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the lamp” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the glistening candle” “of the wicked” which means “belonging to people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “shall be put out” or “will be extinguished, dried up and quenched”. Solomon said even the small flickering and tiny flame of people who are evil and hostile to God shall be extinguished.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how people who conduct their lives in lawfulness and righteousness become luminary with gladness, however, people who conduct their lives in evil and hostility to God shall have even the spark of their lives quenched. Jehovah God wants us to have a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who is the “light of the world” (See John 8:12; 9:5) who died on the cross for our sins. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and make us the “light of the world” (See Matthew 5:14) to others so they may come into relationship with Him as well.
Next time Solomon says, “only by pride comes contention”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
